When Christmas time comes around, children dream of Santa delivering the present of their dreams in the stocking on Christmas Eve. Of course that is the Father Christmas of myth and mystery, but stand in Santas can be found in most towns, department stores, and shopping malls during the run up to Christmas, giving the younger children a taster for the real thing.
Of course, when you have two traditions of Christmas, the two versions of Father Christmas can appear to be poles apart. No pun on the Polish St Nicholas, who has some very different traditions to the English Santa.
And it is not always a nice surprise in discovering the differences.
The old ways can sometimes be a disappointment when not viewed through rose tinted glasses.
