Nephrology in your pocket is written by two clinical nephrologists, one trained and practicing in the USA, the other in Europe. Initially intended for medical students, the book has been expanded to be useful to all physicians and midlevel practitioners who care for renal patients. The aim of the authors is to provide practical information, written simply as if participating in a seminar, and to include clinical pearls, medication dosages, and “important trivia”.

600 pages with almost 300 illustrations and 120 tables.

The book is divided into sections:

Evaluation of the renal patient – including chapters on taking a history and physical, urinalysis, evaluation of renal function (GFR), kidney visualization and renal biopsy
Fluid and electrolyte disturbances – including chapters on normal body fluid regulation, volume excess and depletion, IV fluid therapy, diuretics, hyper- and hyponatremia, hypo- and hyperkalemia, calcium, magnesium, phosphate disorders and acid-base balance, evaluation and disorders
Glomerular diseases – including chapters on hematuria, proteinuria, nephrotic and nephritic syndromes, all the major primary and secondary glomerular diseases
Acute kidney failure – including discussion of acute kidney injury, treatment of AKI with CRRT, and chapters on various specific entities such as rhabdomyolysis, crystal induced nephropathies, hepato-renal syndrome, cardio-renal syndrome, contrast nephropathy, atheroembolic disease, abdominal compartment syndrome, myeloma kidney, thrombotic microangiopathies, sepsis, and acute interstitial nephritis.
Tubulo-Interstitial diseases – including chronic TIN, reflux nephropathy, nephrocalcinosis, analgesic nephropathy, urate nephropathy, IgG4-related systemic disease, aristolochic acid nephropathy
