Alphabets are one of the first things that parents want to teach
their toddlers. Here are some creative and fun ways to
introduce an alphabet to children.
1.Children love music and what better way than an Alphabet song?
Put it on every day during playtime and they will be
humming along in no time!
2.There are plenty of alphabet books available, or you
can easily make your own. Choose one letter for each page,
with one large picture to avoid confusion and help comprehension.
3.Make a game out of learning the alphabets. Say “A” and
have them tell you the next letter – “B”. You may also make mistakes
at times – let them correct you. Then whoever gets the most
letters correct gets a sticker or a star or any treat that your child enjoys.
4.When you go out, look out for letters and let your child read them to
you; license plates, menus, semi trucks – your child
will love pointing the letters out for you. The idea is to let them
know that alphabet is everywhere.
Do not expect your child to understand their ABC’s in one day, even if
you have spent the whole day trying to teach them!
In fact, you should not spend too much time over it or it
will become an unpleasant chore. Just keep recognizing
opportunities as suggested above and your child will be ready to
move on to recognizing words in no time.
